Others drag history into the room the second you lay eyes on them. This matching Walther ac44 G43 is absolutely the latter. Manufactured in 1944 during the collapsing final phase of the Third Reich, this rifle represents Germany’s desperate attempt to modernize infantry firepower against Allied semi-automatic rifles already dominating the battlefield. The result was the G43 — a brutal, mechanically distinctive combat rifle that today sits at the absolute top of serious WWII German small arms collecting. This particular example checks boxes that advanced collectors wait years to find together in one rifle. The receiver remains properly coded “ac44” for Walther wartime production with a sharply visible Eagle/WaA359 Waffenamt acceptance proof stamped directly above serial number “9969.” The WaA359 inspection mark is the correct late-war Walther military acceptance code and remains fully visible with excellent strike definition. Matching serial number “9969” is also present on the stock toe, reinforcing the rifle’s surviving matching status and significantly elevating collector desirability. The rifle retains a tremendous amount of authentic late-war character. The phosphate military finish exhibits the exact muted wartime appearance collectors expect from 1944 Walther production, paired with rougher machining textures and simplified finishing standards introduced as Germany’s wartime manufacturing infrastructure deteriorated under Allied pressure. The ribbed receiver cover, forged operating handle, integral ZF4 scope rail cuts, hooded front sight assembly, tangent rear sight and original pattern detachable magazine all remain consistent with correct late-war G43 configuration. Equally important is what this rifle does NOT show. There is no visible import mark, no Soviet-style shellac application, no billboard refurbishment markings, and no electro-pencil force-matching commonly encountered on Russian Capture G43 rifles. The wood displays authentic wartime service wear and age lines instead of postwar refurbishment characteristics. That distinction matters enormously in today’s collector market, where untouched non-import matching G43 rifles continue separating themselves from the flood of reworked imports that dominate the surviving population. Mechanically, the G43 was one of the most advanced infantry rifles fielded by Germany during WWII. Chambered in the devastating 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge and fed by a detachable 10-round magazine, the rifle provided German infantry with dramatically increased battlefield firepower over the standard Kar98k bolt-action platform. The gas-operated system was heavily influenced by lessons learned from the Soviet SVT-40, creating a rifle capable of rapid follow-up shots while maintaining full-power rifle cartridge performance. Collector demand for original-condition G43 rifles has exploded over the last decade — especially matching Walther-coded examples retaining correct wartime features and strong acceptance markings. Between the visible WaA359 inspection proofs, Eagle/Swastika Heer acceptance proof, matching serialized components, non-import status, correct late-war finish profile, and unmistakable battlefield presence, this rifle lands squarely in the upper echelon of surviving ac44 G43s. This is not just another WWII rifle. This is centerpiece-grade German wartime hardware with real collector gravity behind it. ***Please see pictures for condition and wear*** SHIPPING INFORMATION: IF THE ITEM YOU PURCHASE IS C&R ELIGIBLE, WE WILL ACCEPT A C&R LICENSE WE TRY TO SHIP FIREARMS THE SAME DAY PAYMENT/FFL IS RECEIVED.
