Description: These “New Model” revolving rifles, carbines, and shotguns were produced in numerous configurations between 1855 and 1864. Of the approximately 18,300 manufactured, only about 2,300 were .56 caliber carbines fitted with 21-inch barrels. This particular example is even more uncommon, as it is one of roughly 2,000 .56 caliber carbines of varying barrel lengths that bear London proof marks. Unlike the majority of those London-proofed carbines, which typically feature brass buttplates, this specimen is fitted with an iron buttplate. Additional features include a brass blade front sight, a three-leaf rear sight with one standing leaf, the standard one-line address on the top strap, patent markings stamped in one of the cylinder flutes and on the left side of the frame, a saddle ring and stud mounted on the left side, and a smooth buttstock. Matching serial numbers appear on the underside of the barrel, frame, and trigger guard, as well as on the toe of the buttplate. The left side of the stock is also stamped with the old collection inventory number “2704.” Condition Fine with 40% plus original blue finish, smooth brown patina on the faded areas, mild pitting, attractive aged patina on the brass trigger guard, and generally fairly minor overall wear. The stock is very fine and has some scattered minor storage dings, a very minuscule hairline crack on the right at the junction with the frame, and light wear. Mechanically excellent. Price: $24,999.99 Rifle Caliber: .56 Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1855-Carbine Serial Number: 10019 Barrel Length: 21 inch part octagon Condition: The bores are mostly shiny with some brown patina in the muzzle and crisp rifling. |
