The “pinched frame” rear sight, a remarkable feature found on only about half of SAA revolvers below serial number 200, is virtually never encountered today, making surviving examples a true rarity in any condition. This iconic revolver, serial number 56, also boasts a fascinating service history, having originally seen prolonged U.S. military use before being arsenal refurbished in the 1890s into the Artillery Model configuration, complete with a desirable 5 1/2-inch barrel and the inspection initials “R.A.C” of famed U.S. Ordnance Sub-Inspector Rinaldo A. Carr. The revolver’s striking full blue finish and characteristic details indicate it was later overhauled at the historic Manila Ordnance Depot circa 1901, a notable stop in the storied journey of these legendary sidearms.
