This exceptional late production Winchester Low Wall musket is a remarkable collectible, showcasing sought-after second generation features like a single barrel band and a contoured forearm with classic finger grooves. The musket is outfitted with a blade front sight, intentionally designed without a rear sight provision, and features all the correct Winchester factory markings, including the distinct oval proof marks. Of particular interest to collectors, it is equipped with a Lyman No. 41 receiver peep sight, with the factory proof mark thoughtfully offset to accommodate this special sight. Additional period-correct details include a robust steel forend cap and functional sling swivels. Impressively, the musket still retains its original factory instruction tag attached to the buttstock, a rare and extraordinary feature that adds significant historical value. Its provenance and authenticity are further highlighted by its inclusion and clearly pictured status in John Campbell’s authoritative book, “The Winchester Single-Shot” (page 154), where the original instruction tag is also visible. With its outstanding preservation, period documentation, and recognition among leading collectors and historians, this musket is an ideal centerpiece for any Winchester or antique firearm collection, offering historic significance and strong investment appeal.
Condition
Excellent plus, retaining 99% original blue finish showing some high edge wear contained to the buttplate and limited handling evidence. The wood is also in excellent condition with a small missing surface chip near the upper tang; otherwise, a couple minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. An exceptional low wall musket for your Winchester or single shot collection.
