The .444 Marlin cartridge was designed to replace the .45-70 in modern firearms. It is sufficient for anything that you'll find in North America, and most of the rest of the world as well. This rifle, the .444 SS is based upon the Marlin 336 action, beefed up to handle the more powerful cartridges.
