Description:
Winchester Model 1886 26" Octagonal .45-90 WCF Lever Action Rifle
This is a Winchester 1886 Lever Action Rifle in 45-90WCF. It is in a standard configuration with a full 26" Octagon barrel and has a Marbles tang sight installed with a buck horn rear barrel sight and front sight is a Lyman beach-style folding sight. The butt stock and fore stock are walnut with a crescent butt plate

Condition:
The overall condition of this Winchester 1886 rifle is very good. The rifle retains about 40% of its metal finish with finish thinning at edges. The receiver has mostly muted to a nickel-like appearance typical of Winchester case color of this era. The barrel and magazine have fairly evenly scattered finish wear with most worn areas gone to a light patina. There are scattered spots of light oxidation. The bore is good with sharp rifling with scattered light erosion and some light pitting and would rate +6/10. There are tool marks at the sight dovetails on the barrel. The rear sight are in good condition. The folding tang sight installed is in fine condition. The front Lyman/Beach combination sight is also in good condition though missing the ivory bead on the post. These sights are not original to the gun. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The legends are strong and clear throughout with some softening on the address and caliber markings.

The stocks are overall in very good condition. They have scattered nicks and scratches with a few dings to be expected with an antique rifle. The buttstock has some discoloration including a streak along the comb as well. The rifle cycles and ejects cases strongly and locks up firmly and is in very good mechanical condition. This is a fine example of a 135 year old Winchester Model 1886 rifle in a very popular caliber with some nice features. This being an antique it can be shipped directly to the buyer. This rifle comes with a Cody Firearms Records letter detailing the rifles original configuration and ship date. This rifle came out of Wyoming.
