Overview
The Colt Fourth Model Deringer (No. 4) was produced from 1960 to 1963. A matching set—often sold as consecutive serial numbers in a "Lord and Lady" pairing with gold-plated and nickel finishes—is primarily a novelty collector's item today.
Design & Performance
- Caliber: .22 Short.
- Operation: Single-shot, break-action design. You must half-cock the hammer, press the release button, tip the barrel up, load, and close it before firing.
- Velocity: Muzzle velocity for the .22 Short averages roughly \(509\) to \(540\) fps, generating very little energy.
- Accuracy & Use: It is highly inaccurate beyond touching distance (e.g., across a card table). Firing them excessively can actually wear down the soft alloy used in the barrel and frame.
The 1961 Colt Fourth Model "No. 4" Derringer was a modern reproduction of the classic Third Model, manufactured between 1959 and 1963. They were often sold as "Lord and Lady" cased matching pairs.
