Early WWII Winchester M1 .30 Carbine
Just acquired along with a large collection of U.S. military firearms including a number of M1 models is this very fine vintage WWII U.S. M1 .30 caliber carbine made by the famed name of Winchester right here in New Haven, CT- just 25 miles away from our retail gallery and offices in Southport.
This specimen is an early “1st block” of carbines made from September of 1942 to February of 1944 and is marked serial number 1279591. It was arsenal redone and bears no cartouche in stock but it is in excellent condition. The safety and mag release are proper for this model and series. The handguard has two rivets and proper. It has a “Type II” barrel band and marked “SA”. The replaced stock and barrel band are fine. The barrel has all of its finish and is beautiful. The finish on this specimen is very sharp and vibrant-not the usually found faded to grey patina most often encountered. It is marked with its “W” proof mid way down 18” barrel. Safety is Type B. The bolt is also beautifully blued and is a flat bolt which is proper. The 15-round magazine is stamped “IW” for International Silver -made for Winchester). The hand guard is early 2-rivet. The sling has a “C” clip. Finally the underside of the pistol grip has a stamped “T” which most likely stands for the Tooele Army Depot and probably the origin of the in -war arsenal rebuild.
An extremely fine example of a U.S. WWII firearm with the Winchester name which should appeal to both U.S. military and Winchester collectors alike.
