Description: This is an interestingly different Civil War Era calvery carbine...It has been created by modifing an Enfield  Artillery Musketoon, for mounted use...It has a 20" barrel and is .577 caliber...Correct carbine rear sight, with correct cross bolt estructions for installation of carbine sling hook bar and ring assembly...Overall excellent antique condition with near perfect bore... So, how and when did this authentic looking piece come into existance? Some speculations... A. The absense of British Military markings, plus the London proof marks and the 1861 dated lock plate, suggests this carbine could have been created in order to fill a contract obligation to provide a small number of carbines in a larger order for infantry type rifles...The 1861 dated lock plate suggests an early Confederate Government or Southern State contract, let early in the war... B. Or, as likely, this carbine could have been created from a damaged Artillery musketoon, with parts added to create a calvery carbine... C. And of course, this could be a latter, 20th century piece created from a mix of original parts, to meet the needs of a Confederate Calvery reinactor... The near perfect bore is a disappointment. as it is an indication of a lack of firing... Rare to find something like this that looks so authentic...   Price: $1,495.00 Antique: Yes
