The Barnett Enfield rifle, formally known as the Barnett Pattern 1853 Enfield, is a .577 caliber percussion-lock rifle-musket manufactured by the prominent 19th-century London gunmaker J.E. Barnett & Sons. It was highly prized for its accuracy and reliability during the mid-19th century...The London firm of John Edward Barnett & Sons was a principal supplier of firearms to the Confederacy, earning the nickname "Gun Maker to the Confederacy." They delivered thousands of Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-muskets, as well as Pattern 1856 Cavalry carbines and other infantry arms to fulfill Confederate central government contracts and state orders...
