Description:
General Specs: Enfield, c1888, .577/450 Martini-Henry, 9lbs. LOP 14 1/16"
Serial Number:   2288

Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer the classic Martini-Henry rifle. The Martini-Henry served as the United Kingdom’s official service rifle replacing the Snider-Enfield in 1871 and was replaced by the Lee-Medford in 1889, however, the Martini-Henry was not completely phased out until 1904. With that said, the Martini-Henry was still issued to colonial troops and auxiliary forces well into the First World War. The martini Henry was also issued with incendiary ammunition for subduing enemy observation balloons early in World War 1. The Martini-Henry was most famously employed by the British in the Battle of Rorke’s Drift. The Martini-Henry became a popular choice for civilian applications as well and became a popular choice for competitive shooters and is still used in competitive shooting to this day. This example, serial number 2288 was produced by Enfield sometime between 1888 and 1889. The receiver and lever retains 80% factory finish, the trigger guard retains 85% factory finish which has turned to a pleasant patina. Furthermore, it has an excellent bore that rates 8/10, and the barrel retains 70% factory finish, with silvering right on the balance point where a soldier has probably carried it for miles! A great choice for the Militaria collector, or the appreciator of strong rifle actions. Have a look at the detained specifications and pictures below. Thanks for looking!
