The Egyptian Hakim is a gas-operated, semi-automatic battle rifle adopted by the Egyptian military in the early 1950s. It served as Egypt's primary service rifle until it was phased out in the late 1960s in favor of the AK-47 / AKM. Under President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Egypt sought to build an independent small-arms industry. They purchased the manufacturing tooling and licensed the design of the Swedish rifle the Ag 42 Lungman. The Swedes helped set up production lines at the Maadi Military and Civil Industries Company (Factory 54) in Egypt. There were around 70 thousand manufactured. While the Swedish original fired the 6.5×55mm cartridge, Egypt redesigned the rifle to fire the German 8mm cartridge. Egypt already possessed massive stockpiles of 8mm ammo left behind from World War II. The Hakim directs combustion gases through a tube straight back onto the bolt carrier to cycle the action. It uses a Tokarev-pattern tipping bolt locking system. Because Egypt sourced 8mm ammunition of varying age, quality, and power levels, engineers added an adjustable gas system. Shooters can adjust the port using a specialized tool to match the ammunition's pressure profile. It features a 10-round detachable box magazine. However, the latch locks the magazine firmly into place; it was designed to stay fixed and be reloaded from the top via stripper clips.Due to the heavy recoil of the full-power 8mm Mauser round, a prominent integral muzzle brake was added. This makes recoil highly manageable but creates a highly concussive and loud blast for nearby bystanders. Technical Specifications are. The rifle weighs approximately. 10 lbs (4.5 kg) emptythe overall length 47.7 inches (1,212 mm). The barrel length is 25.5 inches.
