The Tula Arms M91/30 is a highly collectible, Russian bolt-action infantry rifle chambered in 7.62x54mmR and manufactured at the historic Tula Arsenal (Factory No. 536). Produced between 1930 and 1945, it served as the backbone of the Soviet Red Army during World War II. While Izhevsk produced significantly more M91/30s, Tula-manufactured rifles are generally more sought after by military surplus collectors due to their lower production numbers and cleaner factory stampings.
The Tula Star: The most definitive marking is a five-pointed star stamped on the barrel shank. Depending on the year, it may feature an arrow inside the star or a hammer inside the star.Receiver Variations: Early models made up to 1935 or 1936 feature a \"hex\" (angular) receiver, which collectors prefer for its rigidity and craftsmanship. Mid-to-late war models feature a simplified, round receiver to accelerate wartime mass production.Sight System: A standard hood-and-post front sight paired with a tangent rear sight graduated from 100 to 2,000 meters.Wartime Variations: Rifles from the peak war years (1941–1943) often show rougher metal machining, tool marks, and \"force-matched\" serial numbers from post-war Soviet refurbishment programs.
