Description:
This is a handsome bayonet that measures 24 3/4" overall, with a 20" single-edged, yataghan type blade with wide single fullers. The blade has an overall bright original patina with only some tiny spots of plum-brown freckling present along its length, and a crisp "H" inspector proof on the ricasso reverse. The cast brass hilt has a dark yellow-ochre patina throughout, with areas of darker brown tarnish within the grip grooves, and on the still functional press stud and spring. The brass and leather scabbard is in fine shape as well, with some minor flaking and crazing to the leather and a matching yellow-ochre patina. A small brass ring and cord loop were added to the frog stud and a small hole has been drilled in the tip chape respectively to allow for wall display at some point in the past. This is a fine example of a well-made and iconic Civil War US saber bayonet, and would make a splendid piece for display.;
