Description:
A highly desirable Civil War–era Remington collectible, this Rider Double Action New Model Belt Revolver stands out as a scarce factory metallic-cartridge conversion—an advanced and sought-after sidearm from the peak years of westward expansion.
  • Manufactured by Remington from 1863 to 1873
  • Estimated original production of only 3,000 to 5,000 Rider Double Action New Model Belt Revolvers
  • Far fewer were factory converted for use with metallic cartridges, making this example especially collectible
  • Factory cartridge-conversion revolver, representing one of the most technologically advanced handgun designs of its period
  • Historically significant configuration associated with the middle decades of American westward expansion
  • Remington revolvers of this type—especially double-action examples—would have been highly valued in the American West for:
    • Rugged, dependable construction
    • Faster firing capability compared with many earlier revolvers
    • Advanced metallic-cartridge use for the era
  • Standard three-line patent, address, and model marking located on the top flat of the barrel
  • Matching serial number appears in multiple locations, an important collector feature:
    • Left side of the grip frame
    • Trigger guard tang
    • Bottom of the barrel
    • Hand-marked in blue ink inside both grip panels
  • Conversion number “4” is also consistently marked in multiple locations:
    • Left side of the grip frame
    • Trigger guard tang
    • Bottom of the barrel
    • Rear face of the conversion plate on the cylinder, along with “1010”
    • Hand-marked in black pencil inside both grip panels
  • Equipped with a blade front sight
  • Frame-top groove rear sight
  • Fitted with a pair of very attractive smooth pearl grips, adding strong visual appeal and collector desirability
  • An excellent choice for collectors focused on:
    • Early Remington revolvers
    • Factory cartridge conversions
    • Double-action frontier-era sidearms
    • Scarce American West firearms
    • Historically important transitional revolver technology

Condition

Excellent, retains 98% of the factory nickel finish with some scattered light handling marks and a few patches of very light spotting. 80% of the factory nitre blue remains on the screw heads. The grips are also excellent with a couple light chips near the heel of the right panel and otherwise only the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent. One would search a very long time to find a finer example of a factory cartridge conversion Remington-Rider double action New Model Belt revolver!
