British SIDE x SIDE with GAME SCENE ENGRAVING
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Game Scene Engraved British R. Hughes Double Barrel Side by Side Sidelock Percussion Shotgun, manufactured circa the mid-1800s in Birmingham, England. Robert Hughes appears on his own circa 1855 in Birmingham. His sons became partners with him circa 1880 and continued through at least 1887. They specialized in side by sides, including shotguns and rifles.
This piece features dog’s head hammers, engraved locks, trigger guard, and butt plate tang that depict dogs, hares, and game birds in addition to floral scrolls. The wood has nice grain. It is better in person!
The overall condition is very good. Faint but discernible Damascus pattern on the barrel. Nice engraving throughout. The actions are excellent and strong. The bores are smooth and reflective. The stock is solid. A distinguished English shotgun from the mid-19th Century!
