The Dumoulin Battue L Takedown is a beautifully crafted Belgian sporting rifle that combines traditional European gunmaking artistry with practical hunting functionality. Built by Dumoulin of Belgium, one of the most respected makers of custom Mauser-action sporting rifles, this rifle embodies the qualities sought after by international hunters: reliability, elegant craftsmanship, portability, and exceptional field performance.
Manufactured in 2011, this rifle is chambered in the timeless .30-06 Springfield, one of the most versatile and proven hunting cartridges ever developed. The rifle utilizes a premium Mauser bolt action featuring a full-length claw extractor, controlled-round feed, and a traditional three-position flag safety. A push-set front trigger allows the shooter to use the trigger conventionally or push it forward to engage a refined hair-trigger for precise shooting situations.
The rifle is configured as a take-down model, allowing it to be quickly disassembled for transport while maintaining the strength and reliability expected from a dangerous-game-capable Mauser action. The takedown system makes the rifle particularly attractive for international travel and hunting expeditions.
The 24-inch barrel is fitted with a traditional matted quarter rib carrying a standing express rear sight with gold center line and a ramped, banded brass bead front sight protected by a flip-up hood. These iron sights provide an excellent backup system for hunting in challenging conditions.
Mounted in traditional quick-detachable claw mounts is a premium Schmidt & Bender Zenith 1.5-6x42 illuminated scope with first focal plane reticle. The optics remain clear with a crisp reticle, the illumination system functions properly, and the claw mounts lock securely while providing reliable return-to-zero capability when removed and reinstalled.
The rifle weighs 7 pounds 11.3 ounces without the scope and 9 pounds 6 ounces with the scope mounted, creating an ideal balance between portability and shooting stability.
Condition is described as very good overall, exhibiting only faint wear consistent with careful use. The bore remains bright with strong rifling, the action operates smoothly, and the trigger is crisp.
The metalwork is tastefully executed throughout. The action and barrel retain their blued finish, while the bottom metal displays attractive rose and scroll engraving. The trigger guard features the rifle's serial number engraved within a decorative banner, reflecting the attention to detail characteristic of high-grade European sporting arms.
The rifle is stocked in beautifully figured deluxe walnut featuring a right-handed shadow-line cheekpiece, ebony forend tip, and dual magnum crossbolts for added strength. The action has been professionally bedded into the stock to maximize stability and accuracy.
Perhaps the most impressive accessory accompanying this rifle is its original Emmebi fitted leather takedown case. The case features a luxurious blue felt interior precisely fitted to the rifle and scope. Included inside is the original horn-handled takedown tool, stored in its own leather sheath. The case is further protected by a padded olive-colored outer cover, making it ideal for travel and field use.
