This Steyr Modelo 1912 represents one of the finest South American Mauser contract rifles ever produced. Manufactured by Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft in Steyr, Austria, for Peru, these rifles combined world-class Austrian craftsmanship with the proven Mauser 98 action. This example retains its crisp Peruvian national crest, matching serial number A.1074, and the desirable short-rifle configuration that collectors actively pursue.

Mechanically, the Modelo 1912 is everything enthusiasts expect from a premium pre-war Mauser. The controlled-round-feed action, robust dual front locking lugs, fixed internal magazine, and smooth bolt travel created one of the strongest and most respected military rifle systems ever fielded. The handy 22-inch barrel gives the rifle excellent balance while preserving the handling qualities that made these carbines popular with mounted troops and field units.

The receiver remains proudly marked with the Peruvian national crest and the "MODELO 1912 STEYR AUSTRIA" legend. These markings are among the defining collector features of the contract. Unlike many South American Mausers that saw decades of hard service and refurbishment, this rifle still presents with strong markings, matching numbered components, and an honest military appearance consistent with long-term preservation rather than abuse.

Matching Steyr contract rifles continue to command collector attention because they represent the high-water mark of pre-World War I military rifle production. The visible matching serial number A.1074 appears on the receiver, bolt, and floorplate assembly, while matching component marks are present throughout the rifle. Original crests, matching numbers, and correct military configuration remain the primary value drivers in today's South American Mauser market.

Collectors know exactly what this rifle is the moment they see that Steyr rollmark and Peruvian crest. Elegant, mechanically brilliant, and increasingly difficult to find with matching components intact, this Modelo 1912 is the kind of rifle that anchors a serious Mauser collection.
