There are plenty of Remington Model 03-A3 rifles on the collector market. There are very few that still travel with their original paper trail. This WWII-produced Remington Model 03-A3, serial number 3383641, is accompanied by an extraordinary archive of original U.S. Army disposal documents that transform it from a standard military surplus rifle into a documented piece of American military collecting history. Chambered in .30-06 Springfield and retaining its classic wartime configuration, this rifle represents the final and most refined wartime evolution of the legendary Springfield service rifle.
Built for war and engineered for reliability, the Model 03-A3 featured simplified wartime manufacturing methods while preserving the accuracy and ruggedness that made the Springfield famous. The receiver-mounted aperture rear sight provided a faster and more effective sight picture than earlier M1903 variants, while the robust dual-lug bolt action delivered exceptional strength and battlefield durability. More than eighty years after its manufacture, the rifle still displays the purposeful military design that helped arm American forces during the largest conflict in human history.
Visible markings include the Remington receiver legend, serial number 3383641, a January 1943-dated RA barrel, a boxed FJA inspection cartouche, and the crossed-cannons ordnance wheel. These features are consistent with wartime Remington production and provide collectors with the exact details they want to see on an authentic WWII-era 03-A3. The rifle presents with attractive military wood, parkerized finish, and the unmistakable appearance of a genuine U.S. service rifle that has survived intact through generations.
The real story—and the reason advanced collectors stop scrolling when they see a rifle like this—is the provenance. Included are original Letterkenny Ordnance Depot records, U.S. Army shipping documents, and government transfer paperwork dated April and May of 1957. The documents specifically identify this rifle by serial number and record its transfer from government ownership to Albert W. Demmler, Jr. of New Kensington, Pennsylvania. While thousands of military rifles were sold through government programs during the postwar years, the overwhelming majority lost their documentation decades ago. Finding an intact serial-number-specific paperwork package that remains with the rifle today is increasingly uncommon and adds a level of historical authenticity that cannot be recreated.
This is more than a WWII Remington 03-A3. It is a rifle with a documented journey. From wartime production in 1943, to U.S. Army inventory, to Letterkenny Ordnance Depot disposal in 1957, the history follows the rifle every step of the way.
