Description:
The U.S. Springfield Model 1870 Trapdoor is an antique single-shot rifle chambered in .50-70 Government. It features a 32-inch barrel fitted with a front sight, while the rear sight is not present. The rifle retains a blued finish that has aged to a brown patina, consistent with its period manufacture. The serial number is 32086, identifying it among early post–Civil War Springfield Armory production.

The action is described as strong, with mechanical components functioning as intended for its design. The bore condition is very good to excellent, showing a bright interior with well-defined rifling. The stock is a full-length, straight-grip walnut configuration, typical of the model, and retains its original metal hardware. The butt plate shows visible rust, and the wood exhibits the expected handling marks and surface wear associated with age and service use.

Included with the rifle are its original wood stock and metal fittings, including the crescent butt plate. No additional accessories or replacement parts are noted. The firearm is classified as used and qualifies as an antique under federal definition due to its manufacture date. Overall, this Springfield Model 1870 represents a complete example of the early trapdoor design chambered for the .50-70 Government cartridge, retaining its original 32-inch barrel and historical configuration.
