Description:
SHILOH SHARPS 1874 No. 3 SPORTER IN .40 2 ½” (.40-70 STRAIGHT), #3XXX, MADE EARLY 1980s. This is one of the later Farmingdale, New York made guns before they relocated to Big Timber, Montana. It has upgraded semi-fancy walnut of nice dark color and dense quality. The forend has a pewter tip that shows a little light engraving on the bottom portion. It has a 30” standard octagon barrel giving this one an overall weight of about 10 ¾ lbs. Aside from the semi-buckhorn Lawrence ladder rear barrel sight it is fitted with a mid-range Soule tang sight fully adjustable for windage and elevation along with a sprit level front globe sight that will accept inserts. It also is fitted with double set triggers that are adjustable and a steel slightly curved military butt plate. Shows very light use with perfect bright bore and tight action etc. A classic early to mid 1870s style sporting/target rifle in a great caliber (cases are available frequently made from strong .30-40 Krag or .303 British cases). Ordered like this one today would have a catalog price of approx.. $4200 with a 2 ½ - 3 year wait. My price on this one is $3250.
