Colt Commando 4", 38 Special in original box, with bore brush and instructions still in cosmoline!
In August of 1942, the Defense Supplies Corporation (DSC) balked at the $28 pricetag for Colt's shiny Official Police, Colt designed the "Commando". The less expensive options were a matted blued finish,no checkering on cylinder latch/trigger, and plastic stocks.
This one S/N 34888 is marked on the frame above the cylinder latch with GHD and the Flaming Bomb acceptance. This one was also marked on the butt "MASS", for the Massachusetts National Guard. It comes in its original Kraft brown box wrapped in wax paper with cleaning brush, instructions and serial number penciled in on the bottom. All approximately 50,000 were manufactured between Late 1942 and 1943, and shipped through mid 1945.
