Description:
Overview
The Remington Model 12C is a vintage, hammerless, takedown slide-action .22 rimfire rifle. Designed by legendary firearm engineer John Pedersen, the Model 12C variant was introduced in 1910 as an upgraded target/field rifle to compete with exposed-hammer Winchester models. The 1920s represents the height of its production run.

Core History & Design
  • Design Mastermind: Engineered by John Pedersen (with refinements by G.H. Garrison and C.C. Loomis), the Model 12 series was Remington's premier hammerless .22, produced from 1909 to 1936.
  • The "C" Variant: The 12C was built as a "Target" rifle featuring an adjustable rear sight, a distinct semi-pistol grip (sometimes called the "Tootsie Roll" fore-end), and a crescent steel buttplate.
  • Cartridge Versatility: The classic 12C was uniquely versatile, engineered to safely chamber .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle (LR) interchangeably through its tubular magazine.
  • Durability: The solid-top receiver and side-ejection port were highly praised for sealing the action against dirt, debris, and moisture. [1, 2]
Production & Collectibility
  • Production Run: Over 832,000 units were manufactured across all variations. The 1920s saw some of the highest single-year production numbers, peaking with roughly 85,500 units in 1920 alone.
  • Current Value: Used Remington Model 12C rifles generally trade in the $400 to $900 range depending on condition, bore wear, and the presence of original sights.
  • The serial number (or the two-letter code on the left side of the barrel near the receiver)
  • What kind of sights are currently on the rifle
  • The barrel shape (Round vs. Octagonal)
Specifications
The Remington Model 12C is a hammerless, take-down, pump-action .22 caliber rifle introduced in 1909. The "C" designation represents the Target Grade model, which features a longer 24-inch barrel and target-style sights designed for exceptional accuracy and classic "gallery-style" shooting.
