The Miroku MK-70 is one of the finest production over/under shotguns to come out of Japan and represents the same engineering excellence that made the Browning Citori one of the most respected sporting shotguns in the world. Built by Miroku Firearms Manufacturing Company, the long-time Japanese partner responsible for producing Browning Citori shotguns, the MK-70 offers outstanding reliability, excellent handling, and modern versatility in a well-balanced field gun.
Manufactured in 2010, this example is chambered for both 2.75" and 3" 20-gauge ammunition, making it equally at home in the uplands, waterfowl blind, or on the sporting clays course. The shotgun is fitted with 28-inch steel-shot-proofed barrels and weighs a lively 6 pounds 7 ounces, providing an ideal balance between easy carrying and smooth shooting characteristics.
The barrels are threaded for Invector choke tubes and include both Improved Cylinder and Modified chokes. The ability to utilize modern choke tubes and steel-shot-compatible barrels greatly expands the gun's versatility, allowing it to be adapted to a wide variety of hunting and target-shooting applications.
The shotgun is built on a proven boxlock over/under action featuring a single selective trigger, ejectors, and non-automatic safety. Miroku actions have earned a reputation for exceptional durability and longevity, with many examples seeing decades of heavy use while remaining mechanically sound.
This example remains in excellent overall condition. The bores are clear, the action is smooth and locks up tight, the trigger is crisp, and the ejectors are strong and properly timed. Mechanically, the gun is excellent throughout.
The receiver features an attractive coin finish accented by scroll engraving, providing a classic appearance that complements the rich blued finish of the barrels. The steel-shot-proofed barrels retain their strong blued finish and reflect the gun's modern capabilities.
The shotgun wears a walnut stock and matching forend with sharp checkering remaining throughout the pistol grip and forend. The stock dimensions provide comfortable handling while maintaining the lively characteristics expected of a quality 20-gauge field gun.
One of the major attractions of the MK-70 is its close relationship to the Browning Citori. Miroku manufactures the Citori line for Browning, and many components and design features are shared between the two platforms. As a result, the MK-70 enjoys the same reputation for strength, reliability, and long service life that has made the Citori a benchmark among production over/under shotguns.
