The Nikko Shadow Deluxe is one of the most distinctive competition over/under shotguns produced in Japan during the golden era of trap and live pigeon shooting. Manufactured by Nikko Japan, the company closely associated with the famed Winchester Model 101, the Shadow Deluxe was designed as a serious target gun and features one of the most recognizable rib systems ever fitted to a production shotgun.
This example is chambered in 12 gauge with 2.75" chambers and fitted with 29.75-inch barrels choked Improved Modified (.025") and Full (.035"). Weighing 8 pounds 3 ounces, it possesses the deliberate weight and balance characteristics preferred by dedicated trap and live pigeon shooters, providing a smooth swing and excellent follow-through on longer crossing and rising targets.
The defining feature of this shotgun is its exceptionally rare 3-tier air rib. Measuring an impressive 20mm in width, the elevated rib is fitted with a silver mid-bead and white front bead, creating an expansive sighting plane designed to promote rapid target acquisition and consistent gun mount. The Shadow series air-rib guns are among the most unusual competition shotguns of their era, and examples equipped with the wide 20mm multi-tier rib are seldom encountered today.
Built on a robust boxlock over/under action, the shotgun features a single selective trigger, non-automatic safety, and automatic ejectors. Mechanically, the gun is excellent. The action remains smooth and locks up tight, the trigger is crisp, and the ejectors are strong and properly timed.
The long barrels and tight choke combination make this configuration particularly well suited to trap shooting, live pigeon competition, and other target disciplines where dense patterns and smooth handling characteristics are desired. The additional barrel length and weight contribute to the steady swing that serious target shooters seek.
The walnut stock and forend complement the gun's competition-oriented design and provide the classic appearance expected from a premium Japanese target shotgun of the period. The stock dimensions feature a relatively high shooting profile with measurements that support the elevated rib design and intended target applications.
