Description: Excellent example of a Sharps New Model 1863 percussion carbine, one of approximately 20,000 made between 1863 and 1865. This particular carbine displays minimal signs of wear, a rarity considering most saw heavy use during the Civil War and many were later converted for metallic cartridges. It features the classic blade front sight and Lawrence patent ladder rear sight with an 800-yard center notch for long-range accuracy. The barrel is marked “NEW MODEL 1863” atop the breech, with the Sharps 1848 patent on the receiver, and both the R.S. Lawrence 1859 patent and Sharps 1852 patent on the lock. Inspection marks are present throughout, including single letter marks on various components, “H.D.H” on the stock comb ahead of the buttplate, and dual boxed script “TWR” cartouches on the wrist. The matching serial number “98611” appears on the upper receiver tang and barrel bottom, confirming its original configuration. This carbine is a highly desirable example for Civil War collectors due to its outstanding condition and originality. Condition Excellent, retains 95% original military blue finish on the barrel, 97% plus vibrant original case colors on the frame, lock and hammer, 90% plus original case colors on the lever and buttplate with a few areas of slight fading and freckling on the balance, and 85% plus fiery nitre blue finish on the breech block and small parts. The lightly refurbished wood is very fine with distinct edges, a few light handling marks and legible cartouches. Absent primer feed mechanism, otherwise mechanically excellent. This outstanding example of a Sharps New Model 1863 percussion saddle ring carbine would make an excellent addition to any U.S. Civil War firearms collection! Price: $37,499.99 Rifle Caliber: .52 Manufacturer: Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company Model: New Model 1863 Serial Number: C,46975 Barrel Length: 22 inch round Condition: The bore is mostly shiny with crisp rifling. |
