This fine antique Winchester Model 1892 rifle, manufactured in 1894, exemplifies the classic features and quality associated with this iconic lever-action design. The barrel is clearly marked on top with the two-line Winchester address, and the caliber is stamped at the breech, providing clear identification.
The upper tang carries the three-line model designation, trademark, and patent information, while the serial number is located on the bottom of the receiver, consistent with factory markings from the period.
The rifle is equipped with the standard “sporting sights” typical of the era: a German silver blade front sight paired with an elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight, offering reliable aiming capabilities.
Its elegant, straightforward styling is completed by a smooth forearm and a straight grip stock, both mounted with a classic crescent buttplate. This Model 1892 represents a well-preserved example of Winchester’s craftsmanship from the late 19th century, making it a desirable piece for collectors and enthusiasts of American lever-action rifles.
Condition
Fine, retains 60% of the original blue finish, 30% of the original case colors, and 25% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and some evidence of protective varnish. The wood is also fine with numerous scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
