Built during the golden age of American sporting arms, this Ithaca Flues Model Grade 1½ represents one of the most elegant and well-balanced upland bird guns ever produced by Ithaca Gun Company. Manufactured in 1916, this classic 16 gauge side-by-side features desirable 26-inch Damascus steel barrels and the lightweight Flues action that made the model famous among hunters seeking a fast-handling field gun.
The slim receiver profile and relatively light weight of the Flues design create lively handling characteristics in the field. Combined with the 26-inch barrels, this shotgun swings quickly on flushing quail, grouse, and woodcock while maintaining enough smoothness for instinctive wingshooting. Recoil remains manageable thanks to the balanced 16 gauge chambering and traditional walnut stock configuration.
Ithaca's Flues Model was one of the company's most successful double guns and remains highly respected by collectors today. This example retains the classic rotary top lever, tang-mounted safety, dual trigger arrangement, and extractor system preferred by many traditional hunters. The Grade 1½ configuration paired with Damascus barrels offers the distinctive craftsmanship and aesthetics that define pre-war American double guns.
Chambered in versatile 16 gauge, this shotgun occupies the sweet spot between the lighter carrying characteristics of a 20 gauge and the pattern density of a 12 gauge.
