Offered here is a high-grade factory engraved Krieghoff Classic dangerous-game double rifle chambered in .500/.416 Nitro Express. This is a substantially upgraded factory rifle with extensive relief scroll engraving, highly figured walnut, aluminum takedown case, test targets, and excellent regulation with factory Hornady DGX ammunition.
Serial number 40950. The rifle is built with 23 5/8-inch blued steel barrels with solid rib, beaded blade front sight with flip-up moon bead on a ramped island base, front sling swivel, matted rear quarter rib, and three-leaf rear sight — one standing and two folding — with gold center lines. The barrels carry standard Krieghoff factory markings and 2004-dated German proof marks.
The rifle is fitted with extractors rather than ejectors, a configuration preferred by many experienced dangerous-game hunters for quiet, controlled reloading in the field.
The nitrided action displays high-grade factory relief scroll engraving with broad acanthus scroll over a matted background. The engraving continues across the receiver, fences, top lever, trigger guard, upper tang, and related furniture. The underside is marked “KRIEGHOFF / CLASSIC.” This level of engraving and finish gives the rifle a much more elevated appearance than a standard field-grade Classic while retaining the rugged practical character for which Krieghoff doubles are known.
The rifle features double triggers, including an articulated front trigger, and Krieghoff’s tang-mounted Combi-Cocking Device. This system allows the rifle to be carried uncocked and brought quickly into readiness, an important practical feature on a dangerous-game double rifle.
The rifle is stocked in magnificently figured walnut with multi-point checkered semi-beavertail Schnabel-tip forend, engraved nitrided forend release, pistol grip stock, right-hand palm swell, shadowline cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and a thick black leather-covered recoil pad.
Length of pull is approximately 15 1/2 inches to the front trigger. Weight is approximately 10.75 pounds, providing appropriate mass for a .500/.416 Nitro Express double while retaining practical field handling.
Most importantly, this rifle has been test-fired with factory Hornady DGX ammunition and shoots both barrels to the same point of aim at 60 yards, with excellent practical accuracy. That is a significant advantage in a dangerous-game double rifle, especially in a modern and useful chambering.
The .500/.416 Nitro Express is one of the most practical modern double-rifle cartridges, offering .416-caliber bullet performance in a rimmed Nitro Express case designed for double-rifle use. It provides excellent penetration, a relatively flat trajectory for a double rifle, and decisive dangerous-game performance while remaining more manageable than larger Nitro Express cartridges.
Condition is excellent overall, retaining approximately 99% original blue and nitrided finishes with only minor handling evidence, some light edge wear on the wood, and sharp checkering on both stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
Included with the rifle are its aluminum takedown case and test targets.
