18th Century GENTLEMAN’S HOLSTER/COAT POCKET Pistol
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique European Flintlock Coat Pocket/Holster Pistol, made circa the late 1700s likely in Western Europe. This type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the 19th Centuries in Europe, as well as the colonies that features a large manstopping .54 caliber bore that would have been worn on the belt, carried in a coat pocket, or holstered as it was possibly carried into battle after being privately purchased. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels. It was likely made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside.
The overall condition is good. The action fully functions. The hammer has some wiggle and the left side screw is absent. Good bore for its age. The wood is solid with a repaired chip on the top of the right forend. Absent ramrod.
