Description:
The rifle was designed by the Danish arms maker Madsen (Dansk Industri Syndikat) after World War II as a lightweight military rifle intended for export. Unfortunately for Madsen, most nations were transitioning to semi-automatic and select-fire rifles, leaving little demand for a new bolt-action design. The only major production contract came from Colombia in 1958, with approximately 6,000 rifles manufactured.
Based on the marking "M.G/A Cal. 30" and the serial number format 3579-58, your firearm is most likely a Madsen Model 1947 (often called the M47 or M58) bolt-action military rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield, not a Madsen machine gun. The receiver markings on Colombian-contract rifles are typically stamped "Madsen M.G/A Cal. 30" and often include "Fuerzas Armadas de Colombia."
