Description:

Standard configuration Remington Smoot 2nd Model revolver with 2.75" barrel produced from 1877 to 1885 with approximately 2,000 manufactured in .32 RF, SN: 1244. Shallow half moon front sight and grooved rear sight with the top of the barrel marked "E.REMINGTON&SONS ILION.N.Y. PAT. W.S.SMOOT.OCT.21.1873." referencing the manufacturer address and patent date. Nickel plated with extensive factory-scroll engraving covering much of the frame, most of the cylinder excepting the flutes, with extension to the rear of the barrel. Color case hardened hammer and fire blued trigger. Smooth mother-of-pearl grips secured with a single blued grip screw. The Remington-Smoot No. 2 Revolver was manufactured during the height of American frontier expansion and represented Remington's entry into the pocket revolver market alongside similar offerings from Colt and other manufacturers of the era.

Condition:

An exceptional example with a 98+% percent bright original nickel finish with minimal handling wear, reflected by just a few minute handling marks rather than use. Slight fading of the case colors on hammer, rub marks as imaged. Comparable condition grips without cracks or chips. Mirror bright bore. Correct manual mechanics with all cylinders indexing properly upon slow cocking. A wonderful example that would be very, very difficult to upgrade!
