Description:
This Mannlicher Schoenauer GK is in very fine condition. The 7X64 round is the European equvalent to our .280 Remington. The approximately 20" barrel has an excellent bore that is shiny with sharp lands and grooves. The wood is in a natural finish with few minor blemishes in the finish and checkering--mostly handling marks. There are no deep gouges to be found. There is a blemish in the bluing on the side of the barrel ahead of the muzzle--it appears to be a scratched area. I've captured it in one of the photos and it appears worse than what it actually is. The rest of the bluing is in fine condition, especially given its age. I didn't care for the way the vintage Zeiss scope was adjusting, so I sent it back to Zeiss and they did a great job of cleaning the windage and elevation controls. I have instructions from Zeiss on how to operate the windage and elevation adjustments. There's some worn bluing on the scope, where there are edges. Overall, it's in fine codition. I have about 20 rounds fired through this carbine. The set trigger really creates a hair trigger when engaged. Without using the set trigger, the front trigger pull is heavy. I found it interesting that there is an old style Mauser 98 safety on the back of the bolt, but it appears non-functional because there is a tang safety that operates the mechanism. The brass knob of the safety, when pushed forward, allows the carbine to fire. When slid to the rear, the safety is engaged. Yet, I believe that I see an "S" in the forward portion on the base of the safety. At first, I thought that forward was the safe position because of the S, but it's not. Maybe in Austrian or German, the S indicates the Fire position. Anyway, the safety works just fine. The price is $1,950.00, which will include insured shipping to the lower 48. If you like vintage European, Mannlicher-stocked carbines, this is a really fine example!
