Description:

The Smith & Wesson Model 686-4 with a 4-inch barrel is a highly praised, medium-large "L-Frame" revolver chambered in .357 Magnum.
Produced during the mid-1990s (roughly 1993 to 1997), the "-4" engineering revision is widely considered by collectors to be
the absolute pinnacle of the 686 series. This was the LAST series to include forged steel internal parts and the best modern
durability upgrades before Smith & Wesson introduced MIM (Metal Injection Molded) parts and internal frame locks. 

Key Features of this 686-4
  • No Internal Lock: It does not have the controversial safety key lock found on modern "dash-6" models.
  • Hammer-Mounted Firing Pin: It features the classic and preferred hammer-mounted firing pin, not a frame-mounted pin.
  • Drilled and Tapped Frame: The -4 was the first revision factory-prepared for easy optics and scope mounting under the rear sight.
  • Improved Sights: It features a change to a new top strap sight leaf and a rounded front sight blade.
  • Upgraded Extraction: Features a brand new extractor star design to keep the rod from binding or twisting out of place. 
  • 7-shot Plus Model

The case is not original to the gun.  Grip stocks are not original to the gun, but they look
much better than the black rubber Hogue grip that came with it! No owner's manual.
