Built during the same period that saw widespread use of Colt Navy revolvers, Manhattan’s designs earned a reputation for solid construction and practical field utility.
Like other quality percussion revolvers of the mid-19th century, this example operates through a traditional cap-and-ball system. Powder and projectile are loaded from the front of the cylinder and seated using the integral loading lever beneath the barrel. The single-action lockwork rotates and locks the cylinder as the hammer is cocked, providing the mechanical simplicity and durability that made percussion revolvers dominant before the metallic-cartridge era.
The .36 caliber Navy pattern remains one of the most balanced and enjoyable black powder revolver formats ever produced.
