The Mossberg Model 800 ASM chambered in .308 Winchester with a 22-inch barrel is a vintage, mid-century American bolt-action rifle prized for its classic design and surprising out-of-the-box accuracy. Manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons between 1967 and 1979, the Model 800 line used specific letter codes to identify its configurations. The "A" designates the short-action receiver chambered in .308 Winchester, while the "SM" roll stamp identifies it as a factory Scope Mounted (or Scope Model) package, shipped from the factory with an included optic package and no iron sights. Outfitted with a Monte Carlo style American walnut hardwood stock featuring press-checkered detailing on the grip and forend, paired with a raised cheek cushion for ideal eye alignment with a riflescope. .308 Winchester
