Breech area adorned with attractive oak leaf engraving extending onto the barrel wings, connected by a string-of-pearls motif and surrounding the "GEBRUDER MERKEL/SUHL" marking on the left side. German proofed and dated 1955. 2 3/4-inch chambers with automatic ejectors. Coin-finished, bolster hand-detachable sidelock action equipped with double crossbolts. Action features extensive relief-cut Germanic oak leaf engraving covering nearly the entire surface. Underside marked "GEBRUDER MERKEL/SUHL." Left lockplate depicts a fox flushing a flock of mallards from a pond; right lockplate depicts a setter flushing a covey of quail. Game scenes are executed in exceptional detail with semi-relief gold inlays. Double triggers with articulated front trigger. Tang-mounted automatic safety. Nicely figured three-piece forend with multi-point checkering and engraved iron hardware. Pistol grip stock featuring deep oak leaf carving behind the lockplates. Horn grip cap, blank silver inscription oval, and factory checkered horn buttplate.
