This is a VERY RARE Smith and Wesson Pre-World War II Registered Magnum double and single action revolver.
It is a 6-round N-Frame revolver with a square-butt.
It is chambered in .357 Magnum, has a 6 inch solid rib pinned barrel, and a bore that is in excellent condition.
An estimated 1400 to 2000 of these revolvers were made from 1935 to 1939 making this a VERY RARE revolver.
This revolver was made in 1935 which was the first year of issue for the Registered Magnum.
Based on the Smith and Wesson factory letter, this revolver was shipped from the factory on December 30th, 1935 and was delivered to the Department of Metropolitan Police, Lafayette, IN.
Police officer Harry W. Holblick requested his Registered #716 Smith and Wesson have the specific custom features which this revolver has currently.
This documentation is included to validate this along with the S&W factory letter.
This personal documentation is a RARE piece to go with this revolver.
The revolver has all the original features it had when it shipped from the factory based on the included factory letter from Smith and Wesson.
The blue finish is in great shape with minimal imperfections.
The butt of the frame, rear of cylinder, and the yoke cut are all marked with the serial "47173".
The timing and lock up are perfect based on visual inspection.
It has a fluted cylinder, a shrouded ejector rod, and a checkered cylinder release.
It has a Call gold bead front sight and an adjustable square-notch rear sight.
The top strap and the top of the rib are finely checkered to reduce glare.
The serrated trigger and finely checkered hammer have a color case finish.
The yoke cut is marked "B 47173 REG. 716 5083".
The yoke is marked “5083”.
The right side of the frame is marked “MADE IN U.S.A.”.
The left side of the frame is marked with the small S&W trademark.
The right side of the barrel is marked “S&W .357 Magnum”.
The left side of the barrel is marked "SMITH AND WESSON".
It has 2-piece diamond checkered walnut grips with silver S&W emblems.
The underside of the grips are marked "41767".
The grips are in great shape with no cracks.
The front strap and back strap are serrated.
The factory installed the grip adapter according to the S&W letter.
The factory box for this model is included. It is not marked with a serial number.
This revolver qualifies as a Curio and Relic and can ship where legally allowed.
This VERY RARE vintage revolver would make a great addition to any firearms collection.
