Scarce WWII German Walther G41(W) semi-automatic rifle, SN: 6423, cal. 7.92x57mm Mauser, fitted with a detachable ZF-41/1 long-eye-relief scope, unique/possibly experimental straddle mount, and metal scope can. This early wartime semi-automatic infantry rifle with attached sling, developed before the later G43/K43 system, has a gas-trap muzzle assembly, fixed box magazine with stripper-clip loading system, and a tangent rear sight whose base area is provisioned for a scope rail, in this case, serving to attach a ZF-41/1 optic that, together with attached straddle mount, can be carried in the included green-painted metal scope can. The left side of the receiver is marked G.41(W) followed by the SN: 6423 and the Walther letter code "ac". The serial number and Walther's Eagle/359 acceptance are found on the gas trap muzzle cap, left side of front sight, both barrel bands, phenolic handguard (only the SN), op rod, bolt cover, safety, upper magazine housing, sheet metal trigger guard, and lower spine of stock. Unmarked front sight cover and blued cleaning rod. Cupped butt plate marked "gqm/41". Scope marked "dow + ZF40 41/1" with front/rear sunshades. Optic showing vertical pointed post bracketed by fine crosshairs. Straddle mount with faded blue, rife with machine markings, internal inspections "E" "G" and "T", no military acceptances. Green painted can with hinged, spring-tensioned retaining strap, lid with illegible Waffenamt adjacent to "jvb" compartmentalized for cleaning supplies, interior carefully dimensioned to securely hold the scope and attached mount with felt lining on lid and base of can. Original, unmarked military sling as correct for this rifle.

Condition:

VG+ overall, the rifle retaining the majority of its original salt blue finish with sharp edge wear, fading, and toning in usual areas of handling. The stock with commensurate handling marks, numerous dents, scratches, bruises, and field wear consistent with age and service, a crack on the left side of the wrist having been professionally repaired, retaining clear SN and Waffenamt inspection markings. The scope with appropriate exterior wear and patina, the optics bright but slightly hazy, the reticle crisp. Mount with considerable toning. Carrying case with aged repainting, properly securing exterior and interior lids. Sling with age appropriate crazing, oil darkening, and toned buckle. Bright bore. Correct manual mechanics. A phenomenal, all matching G41(W) sniper rig with a dow ZF 40 41/1 scope, coupled to a fascinating, arguably experimental, straddle mount with its jvd-accepted carrying case.
