Vintage Mossberg Model 35 16GA Shotgun Monthly Special
Offered here for sale and just acquired is a vintage Mossberg Model 35 16 GA pump shotgun marketed through Ward Western Field.
The Mossberg Model 35 was sold under the Western Field trade name by Montgomery Ward is an interesting shotgun because there were actually several "Model 35" designations used over the years by different manufacturers. With a 28-inch Modified barrel, it is most likely one of the Mossberg store-brand pump guns produced for Montgomery Ward during the postwar period. Mossberg manufactured numerous shotguns that were marked "Western Field" rather than Mossberg.
Serial Number U92996 we would estimate that it was made from the late 1940s to mid-1950s. The shotgun would have been marketed as a practical hunting arm for pheasant, grouse , rabbit or waterfowl. It has a 5 -shot capacity and walnut stocks.
The shotgun has seen use but is in very nice solid condition. The stock has some marks and the receiver and barrel retains a mellow smooth brownish patina. Exc. Bore.
Western Field-marked Mossbergs have gained interest among collectors because they represent the era when major department stores sold branded firearms through catalogs and retail stores.
