This rifle is one of approximately 500 Remington-Keene rifles produced and issued to Native American police forces under the U.S. Department of the Interior. The receiver is clearly marked "U.S.I.D. 221" and the barrel retains proper Remington address and patent markings. Inspector marks including "P" and "HN" (Henry Nettleton) are present, consistent with U.S. government acceptance. Most notably, this rifle is accompanied by an original U.S. Department of Indian Affairs approved sale tag reading: U.S. Dept. of Indian Affairs Approved Sale No. 221 Rifle & Ammo Indian Police 1888 The sale tag number matches the rifle, an exceptionally rare and desirable historical attribute rarely encountered with surviving examples. Metal surfaces retain a pleasing patina with areas of original finish visible. All markings remain sharp and legible throughout. The wood stock is in excellent condition with light handling wear commensurate with age and strong overall integrity. No significant damage or repairs noted. Please review all photos for accurate condition assessment. Mechanically appears sound with proper function. Bore shows excellent condition with strong rifling and sharp lands and grooves. Remington-Keene rifles issued to the Indian Police are scarce in their own right, and examples accompanied by original matching government sale tags are exceptionally rare, significantly enhancing both historical importance and collector value. This represents a unique and highly desirable piece of American frontier and government-issue history.Terms of Sale — JGray's Estate Firearm Services All sales are conducted in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
