Up for your consideration is a Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless, chambered in .32 ACP, manufactured in 1905, one of the earliest and most desirable production periods of this iconic Browning?designed pistol. These first?generation examples feature early slide markings, and the classic hard?rubber grips that defined Colt’s craftsmanship in the early 20th century. This pistol came from the estate of an elderly gentleman along with several other firearms. He obviously took very good care of his collection. The action is excellent and the bore is bright with crisp rifling. The overall finish has a great patina with no rust or pitting. View the photos because as they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” This model is widely regarded as the birth of the American concealed?carry pistol, carried by businessmen, detectives, military officers, and statesmen long before “CCW” was a formal concept. Early production examples like this one are increasingly scarce and highly collectible. Historical Background Designed by John Moses Browning, the Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless was introduced in 1903 and quickly became one of the most successful pocket pistols ever produced. Despite the name, the pistol uses an internal hammer, fully enclosed within the slide to ensure a smooth, snag?free draw. By 1905, Colt had refined the earliest production quirks while retaining all the first?generation features collector’s prize:
