This late model Trapdoor has an overall freckled plum-brown patina along the barrel, mixing with a mottled gray on the receiver, bronze firing pin-equipped breechblock, and lock. Some faint traces of original blue can still be seen on protected areas, and traces of the original oil-quenched color case-hardening are still present on the underside of the breechblock, with mottled freckling on the top surfaces. The left side of the receiver has a small Maltese Cross stamp with central numeral, "9" denoting the 9th New York Volunteer Infantry regiment. The walnut stock rates very good with numerous small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered throughout the old military oil finish. The "SWP / 1891" cartouche is still legible on the left side of the wrist, and crisp unit issue markings, with much of their original white filler remaining, are present on the comb: "9 / B / 3" (9th Reg’t. / Co. B / Rifle #3). This is a nice looking Trapdoor, and is in good-very good condition overall. Antique; Price: $1,995.00 Antique: Yes |
