Description: Vintage 1952 Classic Winchester Model 24 12 GA SXS Shotgun Offered here for sale and just acquired a vintage Winchester Model 24 112 GA sxshotgun – the likes of which we just do not see around these days. Although we are only 25 minutes away from the original factory in New Haven, specimens of this model in any condition just do not seem to be found. The  Winchester Model 24 is a postwar American field gun. With serial number 111967, it falls very near the end of Model 24 production and is generally consistent with manufacture in about 1952–1957. Because Winchester factory serialization records for the Model 24 become incomplete after 1948, an exact year cannot be determined from published records alone, but collectors often place guns in the 110,000 range in the early-to-mid 1950s. The Model 24 was introduced in 1939 as Winchester's affordable side-by-side shotgun. It was designed to compete with working-man doubles such as the Stevens 311 and Savage/Fox Model B. Unlike Winchester's prestigious and expensive Model 21, the Model 24 was intended as a rugged hunting gun rather than a luxury firearm. Production ran from 1939 until 1957–1958, with approximately ONLY 116,000 made. Notable features included: Striker-fired "hammerless" action Double triggers Automatic tang safety Extractors (not ejectors) Solid raised rib Plain walnut stock Blued receiver and barrels Chambered primarily for 2¾-inch shells This was the classic pheasant, duck, and turkey hunting arrangement of the 1940s and 1950s. The hunter could fire the Modified barrel first for a closer bird and then the Full barrel for a longer follow-up shot. This specimen is mechanically sound, retains approximately 85% original blue and it has honest hunting wear with numerous light marks on metal and wood. It still has excellent bores, DOES NOT have any rust or pitting. When acquired it has a crack in the forearm which was expertly repaired/restored by our in house artisan. Overall a solid, tight, honest Model 24 with 30-inch barrels and traditional Mod/Full chokes. Many sportsmen consider these among the best American upland game doubles of the postwar era because they are durable, simple, and point naturally.
