A superb and increasingly scarce example of the Springfield Armory SAR 4800 Sporter, chambered in 7.62×51 NATO (.308 Win) and built on the highly regarded Imbel forged metric receiver. Serial number 14193 places this rifle in the desirable 1991–1992 production/import window, widely considered the peak era for SAR 4800 quality and collectibility. This rifle remains in excellent condition, retaining its original factory configuration, finish, and Springfield/Imbel markings. The receiver rollmarks are sharp and clean, the bore is bright with strong rifling, and the action cycles with the smooth, authoritative feel that Imbel built FALs are known for. The black synthetic furniture is in outstanding shape, showing only minimal handling evidence. Mechanically, this rifle is everything a collector or shooter would want from a premium FAL pattern rifle. The gas system is properly indexed, the controls are crisp, and the rifle exhibits the robust reliability that made the FAL the “Right Arm of the Free World.” With importation ending in the early 1990s and no further Imbel receiver FALs entering the U.S. market, the SAR 4800 has become one of the most sought after post ban FAL variants. Examples from this serial range are especially prized for their metallurgy, machining quality, and pre 1994 configuration.
