The barrel is stamped:
SM BLACK POWDER ONLY CAL. .44 MADE IN ITALY

Historical Background
The original Colt Model 1860 Army was introduced in 1860 and became the principal sidearm of Union cavalry during the American Civil War. More than 200,000 originals were manufactured by Colt between 1860 and 1873. Condition: serial #E40157, .44 cal, 8” barrel with a bright excellent bore. There is no maker marked on this revolver with only a barrel marking indicating barrel length and caliber and stating the revolver was made in Italy. The barrel and cylinder retain about 98% blue with some minor edge wear and some mild oxidation around the chambers. The loading lever and hammer retain about 98% plus case-hardened finish with some wear on the high contact areas and some nice colors on the loading lever. The frame and grip frame have a nice polished brass finish. The smooth, walnut grips rate excellent with some very light dings and handling marks. The action appears to function excellent mechanically. Includes a nice condition black US monogram holster.
