Description: Standard configuration Smith & Wesson Model 1 Second Issue tip-up revolver made from 1860 to 1868 with approximately 117,000 produced, caliber .22 Short black powder, SN: "65792", with blued octagonal barrel/cylinder, nickeled frame, spur trigger, and 7-shot cylinder. Fixed half moon front sight with notched rear sight. Top of octagonal barrel marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS". Patent reference rolled around cylinder. SN: "65792" stamped on the butt with matching "65792" stamped into the right grip, the smooth wood panels secured with a single transverse screw. The Model 1 represents Smith & Wesson's first manufactured firearm and the first commercially successful revolver to utilize rimfire cartridges instead of loose powder, musket ball, and percussion caps. Condition: G-VG original finish with barrel and cylinder showing sharp edge wear, fading, and spotty oxidation. Both sides of the nickel frame have been cleaned. Faded color case hardening of the trigger. Original finish grips with scattered handling marks/light flaking most pronounced on the right side. Bright bore with patchy oxidation. Correct manual mechanics. A nice example of one of S&W's earliest revolvers!
