Spectacular, original finish Winchester Model 1895 Russian-contract lever-action musket, SN: 393102, circa 1915-1917, with box-magazine action and integral stripper-clip guide, military configuration with bayonet lug. An extraordinary example that would be very, very difficult to improve upon!

Winchester Model 1895 Russian-contract lever-action musket, SN: 393102, circa 1915-1917, caliber 7.62×54mmR. Built on the John M. Browning box-magazine Model 1895 action and fitted with an integral stripper-clip (charger) guide on the receiver bridge. Musket configuration with 28" barrel, pinned, patridge-type front sight and notched battle/ladder rear sight, the ladder graduated from 15-32, the left side of the base graduated from 4-14. Top of chamber marked with the Winchester proof (cutting through the blue) surmounting "7.62 /M. M." Left side of receiver marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.” with patent dates “PATENTED NOV. 5. 95. NOV. 12. 95. AUG. 17. 97. JAN. 25. 98. AUG. 28. 99. AUG. 6. 1907.” Top tang marked "MODEL 1895" surmounting the Winchester name and trademark registration. The lower tang marked with the full serial number and a "B" inspection. Front barrel band incorporating an under-barrel bayonet lug and sling swivel, middle barrel band with sling swivel, provisions for two additional swivels forward of the magazine housing and inferior spine of buttstock. Three-piece walnut furniture with handguard, extended finger-groove forend and straight grip buttstock fitted with a smooth, blued, metal sliding door buttplate.

Condition:

Excellent, 95-97% bright original finish with minimal sign of actual use. The loss is related to slight toning over the chamber, right side of receiver, upper/lower tangs, and the expected losses on the buttplate. Wood furniture in comparable condition with only a few minor handling marks. No cracks or suggestion of touch-up; usual oil discolorations where abutting receiver, tang, and buttplate. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. One of the best extant!
