Description:
BRACE of REVOLUTIONARY WAR Era Brass Barrel JOVER & SON Flintlock Pistols

1750-1786 Mfr. With GERMAN SILVER MOUNTS

Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Pair of Revolutionary War Era Engraved Jover & Son Brass Barrel Flintlock Holster/Horse Pistols, made in London, England. William Jover worked in London from 1750-1786. These pistols both feature a massive 20 “Manstopping” bore that could have been carried into battle, or no doubt would have been quite the deterrent against ne’er do wells and ruffians roaming the city streets in tumultuous Europe in the early to mid to late-1700s.

These pistols have a fairly large frame and a heavy barrel. Then, as now, rifles and muskets were the primary arm of the day, useful for everything from hunting to combat. Pistols were certainly not as numerous but still very useful for combat since most firearms at this time were limited to a single shot. Imagine if one discharged their single shot firearm only to miss or have another enemy close the distance. A man expecting trouble might carry as many pistols on his person as he could. According to some estimates, European and English rifles were made at a ratio of 250:1 over pistols, making these rare and highly coveted.

With these pistols being from the Revolutionary War era, they were possibly carried over by a British officer or soldier coming to stop the rebellion of the American Colonies. As mentioned these pistols have a massive 20 bore, which would be a great deterrent to anyone looking at the barrel pointing at his chest.

The overall conditions are good. Both pistols have a strong action. One pistol trigger has a weaker spring than the other. Both bores are good for their ages. Markings are legible. Lightly engraved side plates and signed barrels. A couple small crack can be found between the two stocks, but are stable. Very good stocks with average wear.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrels are both 10-1/8 inches.

Caliber: 20 Bore Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
