Description:
The gun is a "Store Brand Name" shotgun. A "Store Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker (and after 1940) for a wholesale sporting goods dealer, a retail chain store or an independent seller (you local hardware store) who chose the name to go on the gun. Guns with the name EASTERN ARMS CO and the designation 105.9 were made by Harrington & Richardson Incorporated (H & R) for and were sold by Sears Roebuck and Company. It is the same as a HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON TOPPER model. As far as I know there are no serial number-year made tables for H & R made guns or the Topper model. There are several different Topper models since the original Model 48 was introduced in 1943. The model name was last used in 1974. The original Harrington & Richardson Company was formed in Worcester, MA in 1871 and lasted to 1986. Another company, Harrington & Richardson 1871 LLC was formed in 1991, but there is no connection between the two companies. There are several models of the TOPPER which are designated by a model number and the word TOPPER (i.e.) Model 48 TOPPER, which is the basic model. When I'm not sure which model is being asked about, I give the values for the basic and lowest value model. The Information given for the Model 48 TOPPER is as follows: MODEL 48 TOPPER. 12.16. 20 gauges and .410 bore, 26 to 32 inch barrels with various chokes, case-harden frame, top lever break open action, rebounding hammer, self adjusting barrel latch, auto ejector, three-piece take down (frame. butt stock group, barrel and forearm), snap on forearm, oil finished walnut pistol grip stock, semi beaver tail forearm, hard rubber butt plate. This model was introduced in 1943 and made until 1956. Value for this model will depend on its condition, the amount of original finish remaining on the metal and wood. Values given assume that the gun is complete and in a safe firing condition. 12 Gauge
